This is not directly related to app development, but I wanted to give a shout-out to our sounds maestro Andrew. He’s going on tour!
Andrew will be touring in Canada and along the West coast from July 18th to 27th. Congratulations, Andrew! Thanks for contributing killer audio to our game.
Ben just showed me his mock-up for our local high scores screen. Needless to say, both Connor and I are very excited! When you tap on ‘High Scores’, you’ll land here. You will be able to see a set of local high scores, and then jump to GameCenter for the online achievements and leaderboards!
Lately we have been working to make The Helicopter a more simple game. We’ve consolidated some options to make the menus easier to get through, and we’ve decided to have only ONE gameplay mode (Just one play button!).
The real treat is that the single gameplay mode is going to have a lot of depth (for our really dedicated users!) and it will also be easy to jump in and play a quick game without getting too serious.
Our game mode now has a very cool level-progression that takes the Helicopter through radical scenery. Currently, Ben has been putting together graphics for the ‘Suburbs’ level.

We thought long and hard about game sounds for The Helicopter. It was obvious that we would need a killer soundtrack to accompany gameplay. We decided to approach Andrew from SongsToWearPantsTo to compose our theme song- and boy are we glad that we did!

As a lover of both arcade sidescrollers and 8-bit influenced music, I was thrilled when Ben and Brennan approached me about doing music for The Helicopter. They asked for something that sounded “like Anamanaguchi covering the Airwolf theme” and I did my best to combine dirty chiptunes, distorted guitars, and 80′s action television into one epic super-theme.
I’ve seen a lot of their other work and can tell you that this is going to be an awesome app. Hope you enjoy playing it, and hearing it, as much as I enjoyed working on it.
